What Production Capabilities Should an EV Charging Gun Supplier Have?

For an importer, useful production capability means the supplier can build the approved charging gun configuration repeatedly and prove what changed between sample and bulk order. Look beyond machine lists. Check model control, cable preparation and termination, in-process inspection, product-specific testing, traceability and change approval for the exact connector and cable assembly you plan to buy.

Which capabilities matter before sample approval?

Start with the proposed model, not the factory brochure. The supplier should translate your charging path, connector role, AC/DC mode, cable length, termination and market needs into a controlled specification. Ask who owns the drawing, bill of materials, work instruction and revision record.

A workshop can have impressive equipment and still lose control at handoffs. One common moment is when the sample team uses one cable entry and the production line receives a later version. The buyer needs a record that makes the difference visible.

Can the supplier control cable assembly and termination?

For AC charging gun cables, review conductor preparation, terminal connection, cable entry, strain relief, housing assembly and marking. An open-wire termination for charger integration also needs clear conductor identification and a confirmed integration drawing.

How should testing connect to the order?

Ask the supplier to separate routine production checks from engineering or project validation. The test list, equipment, sampling rule and acceptance criteria should belong to the proposed model and purchase specification. A generic “100% tested” statement does not explain what was tested.

Representative vehicle and charging-equipment validation may still be needed before volume purchase. Physical connector fit alone does not confirm electrical, communication or vehicle compatibility.

What change-control capability should a buyer expect?

The supplier should identify changes that affect the approved sample, drawing, cable, terminal, housing, label, accessory or packaging. Agree which changes require documents, a new sample or written buyer approval.

Capacity, certification scope, MOQ, material availability and lead time must be confirmed for the exact model and order. Do not infer them from the factory size.

Read the factory evaluation checklist, review AC charging cable products, or send the connector role, target market, cable build and quantity tier to discuss a production review.

FAQ

Does more production equipment mean a better supplier?

Not by itself. The equipment must support the exact process, and the factory must control product identity, inspection and changes.

What should connect the sample to bulk production?

The model code, revision, drawing, approved photos, label, packing set and inspection plan should refer to the same configuration.

Can factory capacity confirm delivery time?

No. Material supply, order mix and the exact configuration also affect delivery. Confirm lead time in the order quotation.
