A 32A portable EV charger is only the better choice when the supply circuit, connection, EVSE model and vehicle all support the higher current.

Current belongs to a system

Portable charger listings often put 16A or 32A in the title, but the number does not describe the entire setup. Record supply voltage and phase, circuit capacity, input connection, EVSE settings, cable and vehicle acceptance.

A portable “220V” EV charger description is also incomplete. Actual voltage conventions, input connections and installation requirements vary by market.

Why 32A does not automatically prove 7kW

Power depends on voltage, phase and current, while usable charging also depends on the vehicle’s onboard AC charging capability. “7kW” is commonly used as a project class for a compatible 32A single-phase setup, but the exact model datasheet and real supply control the result.

For a confirmed Type 2 single-phase project, see the 7kW Type 2 portable EV charger page. It intentionally excludes 22kW and three-phase positioning.

Choose with four checks

  1. Confirm the source: market, voltage, phase, circuit and connection.
  2. Confirm the vehicle: connector and AC current acceptance.
  3. Confirm the EVSE: exact model, settings, input, cable and documentation.
  4. Validate the use case: cable route, storage, environment and charging session.

What to send the supplier

  • Destination country and sales channel
  • Supply voltage, phase and input connection
  • Required 16A or 32A setting and reason
  • Vehicle connector and representative vehicle
  • Cable length, environment and adjustment needs
  • Quantity, private label, packaging and sample requirements

FAQ

Is a 32A portable EV charger always faster than a 16A charger?

Only when the supply circuit, EVSE setting and vehicle acceptance all support the higher current.

Does 32A always mean 7kW?

No. Power depends on actual voltage, phase, current and system conditions.

Can a 32A charger be used on any socket?

No. The supply connection, circuit capacity and local requirements must suit the intended current.
