EV Charging Gun Cable Length, Bend and Environment Guide

Cable length affects handling, routing, storage, strain relief and packaging. A good RFQ describes how the cable will be used, not only the nominal length.

Choose the working length

State the distance between the EVSE or wallbox termination and the vehicle inlet, then allow for routing, parking position and storage. Request the measurement method and tolerance used by the supplier.

Define bend and handling

• Minimum bend guidance during installation and normal use
• Repeated flexing, coiling and storage method
• Strain relief at the connector and equipment termination
• Vehicle-side and wallbox-side routing constraints

Describe the environment

State indoor or outdoor use, rain or splash exposure, sunlight, temperature, dust, salt or cleaning conditions and whether the complete mated assembly needs a protection target. Do not assume a connector housing rating applies to the whole cable system.

Inspection and packaging

Check cable length, jacket appearance, marking, connector orientation, strain relief, coiling method, carton dimensions and shipping protection against the approved sample.
