How to evaluate a CCS1 to NACS adapter
A CCS1-to-NACS DC adapter is a physical interface between a CCS1 charging connector and a compatible NACS vehicle inlet. It does not automatically make every vehicle, charger or charging network compatible.
This direction matters. Do not describe an adapter as two-way unless the exact model has been designed and validated for both directions.
Start with the electrical specification
Rated current and voltage
A model may be listed at 300A DC and 1000V DC. These are product ratings under specified conditions, not a promise that every vehicle will charge at those values. Actual charging is controlled by the vehicle, charger, battery state, temperature and communication system.
- Confirm rated and maximum DC current and voltage.
- Ask whether the rating is continuous or conditional.
- Request temperature-rise and contact-resistance information when available.
- Confirm the intended CCS1 charger and NACS vehicle combinations.
Mating and mechanical fit
The adapter should mate securely without excessive force or looseness. Review latch operation, release space, cable load and clearance around the vehicle inlet. Test representative vehicles before volume deployment.
Environmental and material details
An IP54 rating is generally associated with limited dust ingress and water splashes in a defined configuration. Confirm whether the rating applies after mating and do not treat it as protection against immersion or pressure washing.
For the CCS1-NACS DC Adapter 2.0 reference model, current product information lists 300A DC, 1000V DC, IP54 after mating, a -30°C to +50°C operating range, thermoplastic housing, silver-plated copper-alloy conductors, 0.71kg net weight and dimensions of 137.39 × 79.5 × 122.93mm. Confirm the current datasheet before ordering.
Questions for the supplier
- Which connector is the charger side and which is the vehicle side?
- Which charger connectors and vehicle inlets have been evaluated?
- What are the current, voltage and temperature limits?
- When does the stated IP rating apply?
- Which documents are available for the exact model and revision?
- What are the sample terms, MOQ, production lead time and warranty?
Prepare a useful RFQ
Include the target market, intended vehicle inlet, charger connector, current and voltage range, use environment, sample quantity, forecast volume, branding needs and delivery destination. This helps the supplier recommend the correct configuration instead of a visually similar product.
Frequently asked questions
What does a CCS1 to NACS DC adapter do?
It provides a physical connection between a CCS1 DC charging connector and a compatible NACS vehicle inlet. It does not increase the charger or vehicle capability.
Is a 300A adapter suitable for every EV?
No. The charger, vehicle, temperature, cable and communication system determine the current delivered.
Can the adapter be used in both directions?
Only if the exact product is explicitly designed and validated for both directions.
Does IP54 mean it can be submerged?
No. IP54 is not an immersion rating.
